2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK & ANALYSIS*
NESAT (PEDRING) will continue to move generally west-northwest to westward throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, the core of the typhoon will continue to brush the northern shores of Hainan Island tonight...entering the Gulf of Tonkin around midnight...and will make its final landfall over Northern Vietnam Friday afternoon, passing over/near Hanoi City Friday evening. NESAT will dissipate along Northern Vietnam-Laos Border on Saturday afternoon.
Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) remain near 120 km/hr (65 knots) with higher gusts. NESAT is a Category 1 Typhoon on the Saffir-Simpson Tropical Cyclone Scale. NESAT will weaken to a Tropical Storm tonight due to the topographical effects of Hainan Island & the cooler sea surface of the Gulf of Tonkin.
Typhoon Force Winds (118 km/hr or more) extend outward up to 45 kilometers (25 nautical miles) from the center...and Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-117 km/hr) extend outward up to 280 kilometers (150 nautical miles). NESAT remains a very large-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 1,020 kilometers (550 nautical miles).
The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Over the shores of Northern Vietnam, making its final landfall...weakened to a Storm [2PM SEP 30: 20.9N 106.9E @ 100kph].
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Dissipated along the Laos-Vietnam Border...just an area of low pressure...about 291 km West of Hanoi City, Vietnam [2PM OCT 01: 20.9N 103.0E @ 35kph].
*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.
