36-HOUR FORECAST OUTLOOK & ANALYSIS*

NORU (16W) is expected to maintain its Northerly track during the next 24 to 36 hours...On the forecast track, the center of the depression shall be approaching the Kuril Islands on Tuesday evening.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) have decreased to near 55 km/hr (30 knots) with higher gusts. NORU is a Tropical Depression (TD) on the Saffir-Simpson Tropical Cyclone Scale. Additional weakening is forecast during the next 24 to 36 hours before becoming an Extratropical system.

The following is the summary of the 36-hour forecast outlook on this system:

MONDAY EVENING:  Maintaining its poleward motion across the open Western Pacific Ocean...about 770 km ESE of Sendai, Japan [8PM SEP 05: 36.0N 149.1E @ 55kph].
TUESDAY MORNING:  Becoming Extratropical as it accelerates toward the Kuril Islands...about 716 km ENE of Sendai, Japan [8AM SEP 06: 39.0N 149.1E @ 45kph].
TUESDAY EVENING:  Becomes an Extratropical Cyclone as it approaches the Kuril Islands...about 334 km South of Kuril Islands [8PM SEP 06: 42.6N 149.4E @ 35kph].

*Please be reminded that the 2-Day Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.

EFFECTS & HAZARDS SUMMARY

NORU's (16W) circulation has become exposed w/ less clouds near the center...rich convective clouds along its periphery. Below is the summary of the storm's parts and its hazards affecting specific areas:

RAINBANDS - over water (Western Pacific Ocean)...not affecting any islands or major land areas. Tropical Depression Conditions w/ moderate to strong winds (25-61 kph) will be expected along these bands (click here to know more about Rainbands).
24HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 100 mm (low to high rainfall) can be expected along areas affected by the outer & inner rainbands (see above)...with isolated amounts of 105 to 205 mm (high) along areas near the center of NORU. (click to open NOAA's eTRaP graphic).

Important Note: Please keep in mind that the above forecast outlook, effects-hazards, current monsoon intensity, & tropical cyclone watch changes every 6 to 12 hrs!

JTWC (US NAVY & AIR FORCE) REMARKS:

REMARKS (for Meteorologists): 8 AM (00 GMT) MON 05 SEPTEMBER POSITION: 33.5N 149.5E.
*TROPICAL DEPRESSION (TD) 16W (NORU), LOCATED APPROXIMATELY
575 NM SOUTHEAST OF MISAWA, JAPAN, HAS TRACKED NORTH-NORTHWESTWARD
AT 11 KNOTS OVER THE PAST SIX HOURS. ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL
SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS THE LOW LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER HAS BECOME
FULLY EXPOSED AND VIRTUALLY VOID OF CENTRAL CONVECTION. THE INITIAL
POSITION WAS BASED ON THE ABOVE ANIMATION WITH HIGH CONFIDENCE. THE
INITIAL INTENSITY WAS BASED ON DVORAK ESTIMATES FROM PGTW AND KNES.
UPPER LEVEL ANALYSIS INDICATES A TROPICAL UPPER TROPOSPHERIC TROUGH
CELL HAS MOVED OVER THE CYCLONE AND SNUFFED OUT OUTFLOW AND SHEARED
THE REMNANT CENTRAL CONVECTION TO THE NORTHWEST. THIS IS EVIDENT ON
ANIMATED WATER VAPOR IMAGERY. THE STORM MOTION HAS DECREASED AS THE
VERTICAL STRUCTURE WAS GREATLY REDUCED BUT REMAINS POLEWARD ALONG
THE WESTERN PERIPERY OF A HIGH-AMPLITUDE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE TO THE
EAST...(
