NESAT (PEDRING) will continue to move generally west-northwest throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, the core of the typhoon will make landfall over the northern portion of Hainan Island later this afternoon & evening...crossing the island for approximately 8 hours before entering the Gulf of Tonkin Friday early morning...and making its last landfall over Northern Vietnam Saturday. NESAT will eventually dissipate along Northern Vietnam-Laos Border on Sunday.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) remain near 120 km/hr (65 knots) with higher gusts. NESAT is a Category 1 Typhoon on the Saffir-Simpson Tropical Cyclone Scale. NESAT will start to weaken due to the topographical effects of Hainan Island & the cooler SSTs of Tonkin Gulf.

Typhoon Force Winds (118 km/hr or more) extend outward up to 55 kilometers (30 nautical miles) from the center...and Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-117 km/hr) extend outward up to 335 kilometers (180 nautical miles). NESAT remains a very large-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 1,020 kilometers (550 nautical miles).

The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:

SUNDAY MORNING:  Disspated over Laos...just a low pressure...about 275 km WSW of Hanoi City, Vietnam [8AM OCT 02: 20.2 103.3E @ 30kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.
