Super Typhoon MARIA StormWatch No. 03

Current Status and Outlook	MARIA has regained Super Typhoon strength as it approaches the northeastern part of the North Philippine Sea…will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early tomorrow morning.. This catastrophic typhoon remains a non-threat to the country and WILL NOT MAKE LANDFALL to any part of the Philippines. However, it will induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas this coming week.
Where is MARIA?	As of 5:00 PM PhT today, July 08…0900 GMT. The eye was located over the Northwest Pacific Ocean (near 20.2N 137.1E), about 1,167 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan or 1,576 km east of Basco, Batanes.
How strong is it?	Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 230 kph near the center…Gustiness: 285 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs)	Northwest @ 20 kph, towards the northeastern part of the North Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights	STY MARIA is forecast to enter the northeastern border of the PAR by early Monday morning (July 09), and shall eventually exit the northern border of the PAR by Tuesday evening (July 10).  It will be known in the Philippines as "GARDO" once it enters the PAR. This powerful typhoon will induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional rains with thunderstorms across MiMaRoPa, the Western Sections of Luzon and Visayas including Metropolitan Manila this coming week. The next 24-hour StormWatch Update will be issued at 7:00 pm tomorrow, Monday, July 09.
