SUPER TYPHOON MARIA (GARDO) STORMWATCH NO. 04 Issued at: 6:45 PM PhT (10:45 GMT) Monday 09 July 2018 Next update: 7:00 PM PhT (11:00 GMT), Tuesday 10 July 2018
Current Status and Outlook	Super Typhoon MARIA (GARDO) has entered the northeastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early this morning as it accelerated rapidly across the North Philippine Sea, in the general direction of the Yaeyama Island Chain. It will eventually move out of the PAR tomorrow evening, July 10.  This powerful typhoon is not a threat to the country, but will induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring scattered to occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas incl. MiMaRoPa, CaLaBaRZon, Metro Manila, and Bicol Region today through Wednesday (July 11).
Where is MARIA (GARDO)?	As of 5:00 PM PhT today, July 09…0900 GMT. The eye was located over the northeastern part of the North Philippine Sea (near 22.6N 131.2E), about 543 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan or 981 km east-northeast of Basco, Batanes.
How strong is it?	Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 220 kph near the center…Gustiness: 280 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs)	West-Northwest @ 31 kph, towards the Yaeyama Island Chain.
Forecast Highlights	MARIA (GARDO) is forecast to lose its Super Typhoon identity within the next 24 hours, and will eventually exit the northern border of the PAR by tomorrow, Tuesday evening (July 10).  It will traverse the Yaeyama Island Chain between 2pm to 8pm tomorrow. This super typhoon will continue to induce the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat)and bring scattered to occasional rains and thunderstorms across MiMaRoPa, the Western Sections of Luzon and Visayas including, CaLaBaRZon, Bicol Region, and Metropolitan Manila today through Wednesday (July 11). The next 24-hour StormWatch Update will be issued at 7:00 pm tomorrow, Tuesday, July 10.
