Tropical Storm JANGMI (SENIANG) has jogged northwestward during the past 6 hours and made landfall over Bohol a few hours ago...now over the eastern shores of Cebu. Strong winds and heavy rains continues to lash Central and Western Visayas.

This cyclone will continue to enhance the Northeast Monsoon (Hanging Amihan) - bringing cooler, windy and mostly cloudy conditions with occasional slight to moderate rains along the northern and eastern sections of Luzon including the Bicol Region.


Residents and visitors along Visayas and Palawan. should closely monitor the development of Jangmi (Seniang).

RAINFALL

  • Heavy to Extreme Rains (100 mm or more): Portions of Eastern and Western Samar, Most parts of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Northern and Central Negros Occidental, Eastern Misamis Oriental, Caraga, Camiguin, Dinagat and Siargao Islands - tonight through Tuesday morning (Dec 30).
  • Heavy Rains (50 mm to 100 mm): Rest of Samar Provinces, Rest of the Visayas, Northern portions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental, some portions of Lanao Provinces, Bukidnon, and the Northern part of Davao Region - tonight through Tuesday morning (Dec 30).
  • Moderate to Heavy Rains (30 mm to 50 mm): Eastern and Southern Bicol including Masbate-Burias-Ticao Islands, Boracay, Northernmost Antique, Western Aklan, Most parts of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Maguindanao, Cotabato and the Rest of Davao Region including Davao and Samal Island - tonight through Tuesday morning (Dec 30).
WINDS
  • Tropical Storm Force Winds (Gusts of not more than 85 kph): Bohol, Cebu, Negros, and Southern Panay including Guimaras Island - tonight until Tuesday Evening (Dec 30).

Forecast Movement: West to West-Southwest @ 12 kph

2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

TS Jangmi (Seniang) is expected to move west to west-southwest during the next 24 hours and will maintain its west-southwest track throughout the forecast outlook. On the forecast track, TS Jangmi (Seniang) will cross Cebu and Negros Provinces early this morning, and shall emerge over Sulu Sea this afternoon and evening through Wednesday morning. The storm shall be approaching Southern Palawan on Wednesday evening.

TS Jangmi (Seniang) is expected to maintain its strength within the next 24 hours, and shall intensify throughout the forecast period. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 10-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 75 kph on Wednesday.

The following is the 3-day forecast outlook summary for this system:

TUESDAY EVENING: Over Sulu Sea...turns to the west-southwest...about 145 km SSE of Cuyo Island [8PM DEC 30: 9.7N 121.5E @ 65kph].
WEDNESDAY EVENING: Intensifies as it passes over Tubataha Reef...approaching the eastern shores of Southern Palawan...about 80 km south of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan [8PM DEC 31: 9.0N 118.8E @ 75kph].
THURSDAY EVENING: Moving faster WSW across the West Philippine Sea towards the Spratly Islands...about 220 km west of Bataraza, Palawan [8PM JAN 01: 8.4N 114.7E @ 85kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 2 and 3 Forecast Track has an average error of 100 and 250 km respectively...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.
