The strong Tropical Disturbance 92W (LPA) which was lingering for the past few days over Central Micronesia in the Western Pacific Ocean has developed into Tropical Depression 06W. This cyclone is forecast to move slowly across Yap State in the next few days and could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday or Thursday (May 6 or 7).

Residents and visitors along Western Micronesia, Palau, Eastern Visayas and Eastern Luzon incl. the Bicol Region should closely monitor the development of 06W.

2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

TD 06W (Unnamed) will move west to west-northwestward throughout the forecast outlook. On the forecast track, 06W will move across Western Micronesia, passing over or very near Yap State on Monday evening through Tuesday.

06W will start to intensify within the next 24 hours and continue strengthening throughout the forecast period. It is likely to become a Tropical Storm (TS) by Monday morning or afternoon. The Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 10-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 100 kph on Tuesday afternoon, May 5.

The following is the 3-day forecast outlook summary* for this system:

MONDAY AFTERNOON: Becomes a TS as it passes over Western Micronesia...about 110 km east-southeast of Colonia, Yap [2PM MAY 04: 9.3N 139.1E @ 75kph].
TUESDAY AFTERNOON: Slows down and intensifies as it moves away from Western Micronesia...about 45 km west of Colonia, Yap [2PM MAY 05: 9.5N 137.7E @ 100kph].
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Strengthens into a Typhoon as it approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR)...about 1,005 km east of Siargao Island [2PM MAY 06: 10.0N 135.3E @ 165kph].
