Current Status

Super Typhoon NEPARTAK (BUTCHOY) weakens further as it makes landfall over the mid-eastern coast of Taitung County, Taiwan, The rainbands associated with the southern outer circulation of Nepartak are currently affecting the  Batanes Province.

This typhoon will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring frequent "on-and-off" rains with thunderstorms and gusty winds across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas including Metro Manila today and tomorrow.


Where is Nepartak (Butchoy)?

As of 5:00 AM PhT today, July 08...2100 GMT.  The eye was located over the mid-eastern coast of TaitungCountry, Taiwan (near 22.6N 121.0E), about 258 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes or 472 km north-northwest of Santa Ana, Cagayan.


How strong is it?

Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 220 kph near the center...Gustiness: 295 kph


Where is it heading?

Northwest @ 11 kph, towards the Northwestern part of Southern Taiwan.


What areas will be most affected?

Taiwan - Today (Jul 8) and Fujian Province, China –Tomorrow (Jul 9).

Possible coastal storm surge flooding of 1 to 7 m (3 to 24ft) above normal tide levels...accompanied by large and dangerous battering waves can be expected along the coastal, inland lakes and beach front areas of SouthernTaiwan incl. Yaeyama Islands and Batanes Group of Islands – today (Jul 8).

STY NEPARTAK (BUTCHOY) is expected to continue moving slowly in a generally northwest direction throughout the outlook period. On the forecast track, NEPARTAK (BUTCHOY) shall traverse Southern Taiwan today and shall be over Taiwan Strait this evening (Jul 8).

STY NEPARTAK (BUTCHOY) is expected to continue losing strength throughout the outlook period as the system encounters land interaction with Taiwan and Southeastern China.
