Tropical Disturbance (LPA) 93W StormWatch No. 01

TROPICAL DISTUBANCE (LPA) 93W STORMWATCH #001 Issued at: 11:45 PM PhT (15:30 GMT) Saturday 19 August 2017 Next update: Sunday Late Evening, 20 August 2017 or earlier
Current Status and Outlook	A Tropical Disturbance (LPA) over the North Philippine Sea, east of Northern Cagayan has been developing rapidly and could become a Tropical Cyclone within the next 06 to 24 hours. This potential system is expected to affect the northernmost islands of Extreme Northern Luzon, where scattered to occasional rains and thunderstorms beginning Sunday (Aug 20) through Monday (Aug 21).
Where is LPA 93W?	As of 11:00 PM PhT today, August 19…1500 GMT.  The center was located over the mid-southern part of the North Philippine Sea (near 19.9N 129.3E), about 766 km east of Basco, Batanes or 768 km east-northeast of Santa Ana, Cagayan.
How strong is it?	Maximum Sustained Winds (10-min avg): 35 kph near the center…Gustiness: 45 kph
Past Movement (06 hrs)	It was moving Westward @ 37 kph, towards Bashi-Balintang Channels Area.
Forecast Highlights	The Global Typhoon Forecast Models (GTFM) are initializing this system to develop into a Tropical Cyclone within the next 06 to 24 hours with a track towards Batanes or Taiwan Area. The latest 24-hour Forecast (August 20) shows LPA 93W becoming a Tropical Depression (TD) or Tropical Storm (TS) while approaching the Balintang-Bashi Channel  Area.  This forecast is at MEDIUM CONFIDENCE. LPA 93W and its associated Trough is expected to bring occasional to widespread rains and thunderstorms across Luzon and Visayas this weekend, particularly Cagayan, Babuyan and Batanes Group of Islands. Once LPA 93W becomes a Tropical Cyclone, it will be locally named as "ISANG."   This 24-hour StormWatch Update will be replaced with a 6-hourly  Tropical Cyclone Updates once it becomes a Tropical Depression.
