Typhoon HALONG (JOSE) has weakened as it slightly turns to the north-northwest...crawling towards Southern Japan.
Residents and visitors along Ryukyu Islands and Southern Japan should closely monitor the development of TY Halong (Jose).

About: 370 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan...or 1,165 km northeast of Basco, Batanes

24 hr. Rain Accumulation (near the center): 200 to 400 mm [Heavy to Extreme]
Minimum Central Pressure: 970 millibars (hPa)

2-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*
TY Halong (Jose) is expected to continue moving towards the north-northwest during the next 24 hours...and veers back to north and north-northeast through 48 hours. On the forecast track, Halong (Jose) will just be moving across the open waters of the Northwest Pacific Ocean, just east of the Ryukyus...approaching the Southern Coast of Kyushu, Japan on Saturday morning.
Halong (Jose) is forecast to reintensify during the next 24 hours while passing over the sea east of the Ryukyus...and will weaken through 48 hours after making landfall over Southern Kyushu. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 10-minute maximum sustained winds decreasing back to 130 kph by Saturday afernoon.
The following is the 2-day forecast outlook summary for this system:
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Slightly gains strength as it moves north-northwest towards Southern Kyushu...about 130 km east of Amami Is., Ryukyus [2PM AUG 08: 28.2N 130.7E @ 140kph].
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: Loses strength after making landfall over Southern Kyushu...about 45 km east of Kagoshima, Japan [2PM AUG 09: 31.6N 131.0E @ 130kph].
