Tropical Depression 02W (AMANG) heading towards the northernmost Mariana Islands...expected to pass near Agrihan Island tomorrow morning.
Residents and visitors along the Northernmost Mariana Islands should closely monitor the progress of 02W.

FORECAST OUTLOOK ANALYSIS (up to 24 hours)*
02W (AMANG) is expected to continue accelerate ENE to NE-ward across the Northwest Pacific Ocean for the next 24 hours and intensify...reaching Tropical Storm strength later tonight. By tomorrow morning (Apr 06), 02W will become Extratropical while passing across the northernmost Marianas [8PM APR 05: 17.5N 142.4E @ 65kph...8AM APR 06: 18.6N 146.7E @ 75kph].
Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) are near 55 km/hr (30 knots) with higher gusts. 02W (AMANG) is a Tropical Depression on the Saffir-Simpson Tropical Cyclone Scale.
*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Extended Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km on Day 3...450 km on Day 4...and 650 km on Day 5, while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.
EFFECTS & HAZARDS SUMMARY
02W's circulation remains over water (NW Pacific Ocean) and is not affecting any land areas, however the system is expected to pass over the northernmost islands of the Marianas particularly Agrihan Island - where light to moderate rains can be expected later tonight or early tomorrow morning. Below are the summary of the depression's parts and its hazards affecting specific areas:
OUTER / INNER RAINBANDS - remains over water, but will start to affect Agrihan & nearby islands of the Northernmost Marianas later tonight or early tomorrow morning. Light to moderate winds (<55 kph) w/ occasional rains can be expected along these bands. (click here to know more about Rainbands).
24-HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 150 mm (light to moderate rain) can be expected along the northern outer & inner rainbands...with isolated amounts of up to 200 mm (heavy) north of the exposed center of 02W [click to open NOAA's eTRaP graphic].

A new Tropical Disturbance 97W (LPA/1010 MB) has been spotted forming near the southern coast of Palawan or off the NNW coast of Sabah, Malaysia. This system is part of the remnants of 01W. The ill-defined center was located near lat 7.8N lon 116.3E...about 340 km SW of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan or 425 km SE of Pagasa Island, Spratlys...with 1-min maximum sustained winds of 30 kph near the center. Its outer rainbands are affecting NW Sabah & the southern part of Palawan. The 48-Hr. Tropical Cyclone Formation Potential on this system is @ 50%.
