The strong tropical disturbance (LPA) near the coast of Cagayan in Northern Luzon, has strengthened into Tropical Depression locally named as GORIO (99W)...moving closer to the eastern coast of Cagayan. Storm Warning Signals now hoisted over parts of Northern Luzon.
*Residents and visitors along Northern Luzon and Batanes-Calayan-Babuyan Islands should closely monitor the progress of GORIO.
*Kindly refer to your local warnings & bulletins issued by your country's official weather agency. This advisory is intended for additional information purposes only.
+ Forecast Outlook: GORIO is expected to pass very close to the northern tip of Cagayan by tomorrow afternoon and shall be over the South China Sea Saturday afternoon, July 11th. This system may still expected to intensify into a Tropical Storm within the next 12 to 24 hours.
+ Effects: GORIO's western outer bands is now spreading and affecting Northern Luzon...inner bands approaching the east coast of Cagayan and Isabela. Moderate to very heavy rains with winds & squalls plus thunderstorms can be expected along these bands. 1-day rainfall accumulations of 100 up to 200 mm can be expected along the storm's rain bands. Residents in low-lying areas & steep slopes must remain alert & seek evacuation for possible life-threatening flash floods, mudslides & landslides due to the anticipated heavy rains brought about by this system. Precautionary measures must be initiated if necessary.
+ Current SW Monsoon Intensity: WEAK >> Partly Cloudy skies w/ light occasional rains & some passing thunderstorms w/ squall plus light to moderate SW winds not exceeding 35 kph can be expected over the following affected areas: WESTERN LUZON, PARTS OF MINDORO-METRO MANILA-WESTERN VISAYAS. Possible landslides, mudslides, mudflows (lahars) and life-threatening flash floods are likely to occur along steep mountain/volcanic slopes, river banks, low-lying & flood-prone areas of the affected areas.
