Current Status and Outlook

HAITANG (HUANING) has made its final landfall over Fujian Province, Southern China this morning. Rapid dissipation of this depression into a remnant LPA is expected through the next 12 to 24 hours. Its decaying rainbands will continue to dump rains, thunderstorms and gale-force winds across the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei and parts of Zhejiang.

*This will be the Final Update on this tropical cyclone.

*The combination of TD HAITANG and the strong surge of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring occasional rains, gusty winds, and thunderstorms with large surfs across Taiwan.

Where is HAITANG (HUANING)?As of 11:00 AM PhT today, Jul 31…0300 GMT.  The center was located over the eastern part of Fujian Province, Southeastern China (near 26.1N 118.9E), about 39 km west of Fuzhou City, China or 703 km north-northwest of Basco, Batanes.

Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Depression HAITANG (HUANING) has made landfall over Pingtung County, Southern Taiwan at around 6-7 pm last night (July 30, 2017). It has weakened into a Tropical Depression (TD) as it moved north in the past 6 hours over the western coast of Taiwan. 

It is expected to move north-northwestward within the next 24 hours at a speed of 30 km/hr, making its second landfall over Fujian Province, Southeastern China where it will weaken into a Low Pressure Area (LPA).

*The combination of TD HAITANG and the strong surge of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring occasional rains, gusty winds, and thunderstorms with large surfs across the inland and coastal areas of Batanes Islands.

Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Storm HAITANG (HUANING) has slightly weakened as it moved north in the past 6 hours over Southern Taiwan. Its rainbands continues to bring moderate to heavy rains with strong winds across the western portions of the Bashi and Balintang Channel. 

This storm is expected to move north-northwestward within the next 24 hours at a speed of 33 km/hr, making landfall over Pingtung County, Southern Taiwan. It will weaken to a Tropical Depression (TD) after its landfall over Southern Taiwan

*The combination of TS HAITANG and the strong surge of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring occasional rains, gusty winds, and thunderstorms with large surfs across the inland and coastal areas of Ilocos Provinces and the Batanes-Babuyan Islands.

Current Status and Outlook

The small Tropical Storm (TS) over the West Philippine Sea with a global name "HAITANG," a Chinese word for a flowering Crabapple – has accelerated rapidly northeastward and entered the northwestern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It is known in the Philippines as "HUANING."  Its rainbands is currently bringing moderate to heavy rains with strong winds across the western portions of Bashi and Balintang Channel. 

This storm is expected to turn northward within the next 12 to 24 hours at a forward speed of 25 km/hr, making landfall over Southern Taiwan later this afternoon or early evening.  HAITANG (HUANING) is forecast to lose strength as it interacts with the mountains of Taiwan tonight, and will emerge over the East China Sea on Monday morning (Jul 31).

Current Status and Outlook

NESAT (GORIO) is already outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has weakened rapidly into a Tropical Storm (TS) after making landfall over Fujian Province early this morning around 5am. This system will eventually dissipate into a low pressure area (LPA) within the next 24 hours.

*This ends our updates on TS NESAT (GORIO).

*TS NESAT (GORIO) and TS HAITANG will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring occasional rains, gusty wnds and thunderstorms across the Western Sections of Central and Northern Luzon, becoming more frequent along Ilocos Region.  Residents are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains which can produce flash floods, landslides and overflowing of some river systems.
