Tropical Storm YAGI (DANTE) has started to decay as it slows down over the sea south Japan.

Residents and visitors along Southern Japan should closely monitor the development of YAGI (DANTE).

CURRENT STORM ANALYSIS

As of 5:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm Yagi (Dante) was located over the Northwest Pacific Ocean...about 330 km south-southeast of Tanabe, Japan or 565 km southwest of Tokyo, Japan...currently moving north slowly with a forward speed of 05 km/hr in the general direction of the Sea South of Japan.

Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min. avg) have decreased to 75 km/hr near the center with higher gusts. Tropical Storm Force Winds (62-117 km/hr) extend outward up to 175 kilometers from the center. Yagi (Dante) is an average-sized tropical cyclone with a diameter of 555 kilometers across. The 24-hour rainfall accumulation near the center of Yagi (Dante) is estimated to be heavy (120 mm).

3-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

TS Yagi (Dante) is expected to move north-northeast to northeast during the next 24 hours, with a counter-clockwise turn to the east-northeast, east to southeast between 48 to 72 hours. On the forecast track, the core of Yagi (Dante) will be just along the open waters of the Northwest Pacific, south of Japan through Saturday morning.

Yagi (Dante) is forecast to decay and start losing strength during the next 24 hours...becoming just a Tropical Depression on Thursday evening...and will dissipate into an area of low pressure on Friday evening or Saturday morning.

The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:

THURSDAY MORNING: Turns north-northeast to northeast across the open waters of the Northwest Pacific Ocean...about 308 km southeast of Tanabe, Japan [5AM JUN 13: 32.2N 138.5E @ 65kph].
FRIDAY MORNING: Weakens into a TD as it decelerates while over the sea south of Japan...begins to move east-northeast to eastward...about 367 km south of Tokyo, Japan [5AM JUN 14: 32.0N 139.7E @ 45kph].
SATURDAY MORNING: Dissipating over the Northwest Pacific Ocean...just an area of low pressure...about 418 km south-southeast of Tokyo, Japan [5AM JUN 15: 31.5N 140.2E @ 35kph].

*Please be reminded that the Forecast Outlook changes every 6 hours, and the Day 3 Forecast Track have an average error of 250 km...while the wind speed forecast error, averages 35 kph per day. Therefore, a turn to the left or right of its future track and changes in its wind speed must be anticipated from time to time.

24HR TOTAL RAINFALL ACCUMULATION - from 5 up to 50 mm (slight to moderate rainfall) can be expected along areas affected by the rainbands (see above)...with isolated amounts of 51 to 120 mm (moderate to heavy) along areas near the center of Yagi (Dante).
