LEKIMA (HANNA) BECOMES THE 10TH TYPHOON
OF 2007...BEARING DOWN THECOAST OF SOUTHERN HAINAN...STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAINS LASHING
THE AREA.
+ FORECAST OUTLOOK: LEKIMA is expected to continue moving WNW for the

next 24 hours and is likely to pass very close to Southern Hainan after
midnight with peak winds of 140 km/hr. The 2-day forecast shows LEKIMA
downgraded to a Storm after making landfall over North-Central Vietnam
tomorrow evening, Oct 03. It shall continue dissipating on Thursday Oct
04 as it moves across Laos.

across the whole Island of Hainan. Meanwhile, its outer rainbands
continues to spread across Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam, portions of

moderate and sometimes heavy downpour can be expected along Lekima's
outer bands...becoming more intense and windy as the inner bands
moves in. Typhoon force winds with heavy rains can be expected over
its eyewall.Coastal Storm Surge flooding of 4 to 5 feet above normal
tide levels...along with large and dangerous battering waves can be
expected near and to the north of LEKIMA's projected path especially
over Hainan and Vietnam tonight and tomorrow. Flash floods and mud-
slides are imminent along river banks, low-lying and mountainous
Monsoon enhanced by TS LEKIMA (HANNA) located over the South China Sea
- will continue to bring cloudy skies with intermittent rains & SW'ly
winds of 20 km/hr or higher across Indochina becoming more frequent
over Southern Malaysia, Western Thailand, Cambodia, & Southern Vietnam.
Landslides and flooding is likely to occur along steep mountain slopes,
river banks, low-lying & flood-prone areas of the affected areas, while
big waves can be expected along the coastal and beachfront areas.
