TYPHOON LEKIMA (HANNA) PASSING SOUTH OF HAINAN ISLAND...ENTERS THE GULF

OF TONKIN. LANDFALL OVER VIETNAM EXPECTED TONIGHT.

+ FORECAST OUTLOOK: LEKIMA is expected to continue moving WNW for the

next 12 hours and turn Westward. The eye shall make landfall along the

Northern portion of Central Vietnam tonight approx 9-10 PM HK Time. The

24 to 36-hour forecast shows LEKIMA weakening rapidly into a Tropical

Storm while over Vietnam and dissipating over Laos around tomorrow

afternoon, Oct 04.

+ EFFECTS: LEKIMA's core (eye and eyewall) is now approaching the Coast-

line of Vietnam as it moves away from Southern Hainan with its inner rain

bands still spreading across the whole Island of Hainan and portions of

Central Vietnam. Meanwhile, its outer rainbands continues to spread across

Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam, portions of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. Cloudy

skies with passing light to moderate and sometimes heavy downpour can be

expected along Lekima's outer bands...becoming more intense and windy as

the inner bands moves in. Typhoon force winds with heavy rains can be ex-

pected over Lekima's eyewall.Coastal Storm Surge flooding of 4 to 5 feet

above normal tide levels...along with large and dangerous battering waves

can be expected near and to the north of LEKIMA's projected path especia-

lly over Hainan and Vietnam today. Flash floods and mudslides are imminent

along river banks, low-lying and mountainous regions of the affected areas.
