Tropical Storm PEIPAH (DOMENG) has rapidly slowed down as it moves closer to Palau...expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) later tonight. Its displaced rainbands continues to spread across Western Micronesia and Palau. The potential landfall area of this storm shall be near the Surigao Del Sur-Surigao Del Norte Border on Wednesday afternoon, April 9.


Residents and visitors along Western Micronesia including the Republic of Palau and the Philippines should closely monitor the development of TS Peipah.

3-DAY FORECAST OUTLOOK*

Peipah (Domeng) is expected to continue moving generally west-northwestward with a gradual decrease in its forward speed throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, the core of TS Peipah will passing over or very close to Palau tonight after entering PAR...and will be over the middle of the South Philippine Sea on Monday afternoon. It will then be approaching Surigao Provinces by Tuesday afternoon...and by Wednesday afternoon, Peipah shall be making landfall over the eastern coast of Surigao Del Sur-Surigao Del Norte Area.

Peipah (Domeng) is expected to slowly gain strength within the next 24 to 48 hours...and shall start to weaken upon its landfall by Wednesday afternoon. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 1-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 85 kph on Tuesday afternoon.

The following is the summary of the 3-day forecast outlook on this system:

MONDAY AFTERNOON: Strengthens slightly while moving WNW across the South Philippine Sea...about 565 km ESE of Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur [2PM APR 07: 7.6N 131.4E @ 75kph].
TUESDAY AFTERNOON: Strengthens further as it continues to move across the South Philippine Sea, closer to Surigao Provinces...about 275 km ENE of Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur [2PM APR 08: 8.4N 128.8E @ 85kph].
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Weakens slightly as it makes landfall near the Surigao Del Sur-Surigao Del Norte Border...about 100 km SSE of Siargao Island [2PM APR 09: 9.0N 126.3E @ 75kph].

Tropical Storm PEIPAH has slowed down during past 12 hours as it maintains its track and strength...moving closer to the Republic of Palau as its heavy rainbands has started to spread across the area. This storm is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early tonight and pass very close to Palau. The potential landfall area of this storm remains along the Surigao Del Sur-Surigao Del Norte Area on Wednesday, April 9.

Residents and visitors along Western Micronesia including the Republic of Palau and the Philippines should closely monitor the development of TS Peipah.

It will then be over the central part of the South Philippine Sea by early Tuesday morning. By early Wednesday morning, the storm shall be just along the eastern coast of the northern part of Surigao Del Sur...prepares to make landfall.

Peipah is expected to slowly gain strength within the next 24 to 48 hours...and shall maintain its strength through 72 hours. Advance Intensity Forecast (AIF) shows its 1-minute maximum sustained winds increasing to 85 kph by early Tuesday morning.

Tropical Storm (TS) 05W is now internationally known as PEIPAH - a popular pet fish in Macao. The storm continues to accelerate closer to Palau and is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow afternoon (Sunday). The latest WPF/MeteoGroup long-range forecast now shows PEIPAH making landfall over Surigao Del Norte on Wednesday, April 09.
